Ingredients

For the Crispy Shrimp:

  • 1 pound raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter option)
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar (for brightness)

For Assembly:

  • 4 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix
  • 1 avocado, sliced (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime wedges, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce

  • Combine all the sauce ingredients in a small reciprocating container with the aid of a fork until homogeneous: mayo, the sweet chili sauce, sriracha, the honey, and the vinegar. Taste and adjust seasoning with spice or sweetness.
  • Pro tip: Do you want it hotter? Put in more sriracha. Want it tangier? A dash more vinegar is enough.

Brief the Shrimp

  • You must pat your shrimp dry. Pour the buttermilk into a wide bowl. Combine flour, corn starch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in another bowl. Submerge the shrimp in the buttermilk and afterwards coat them in the dry mix up to the end.

Fry till golden

  • Heat a skillet of vegetable oil, or about 1 inch of vegetable oil, on medium-high heat. When hot, fry the shrimp in batches of 2 to 3 minutes per side to be golden and crispy. Paper towel drain.
  • The easier alternative: Bake at 425 for 12 to 15 minutes or air fry at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes.

Toss in the Sauce

  • Place warm shrimp in a bowl and toss with a bit of the bang bang sauce. You may also drizzle the sauce, rather than completely covering them, as well.

Build Your Tacos

  • Warm those tortillas and spread them with slaw or cabbage, saucy shrimp, and thin slices of avocado, cilantro, and a zest of fresh lime. With additional sauce sprinkled over, serve at once!
