Ingredients

  • 3 cups Evaporated milk
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 Haitian chocolate stick
  • 1 Lime rind
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 2 Star anise
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • Sugar to taste

Instructions

  • Water should be brought to a boil in a medium stock pot over medium heat.
  • You may need to stir the chocolate stick for 8-10 minutes until it melts.
  • Strain the chocolate liquid with a strainer after removing it from the heat.
  • Bring the chocolate back to a boil on the stove and, once it starts to bubble, add the milk, lime rind, cinnamon stick, star anise, and vanilla extract. Approximately 3 - 4 minutes should be enough.
  • Let boil for another 2 minutes while stirring in sugar and nutmeg.
  • Serve hot once you've removed the pot from the heat.

Notes

  • Experiment with the chocolate-to-milk ratio for the right richness and creaminess.
  • Adjust cooking time to melt chocolate without making it too thick.
  • Monitor stove heat to maintain a smooth, velvety texture.
