Cuisine American
- 1 chicken (whole) or 4 leg quarters, cut
- 1 cup Flour
- 1 tablespoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Paprika (optional)
- 1/2 cup Water
- Oil for frying
- White Gravy
A paper bag or plastic container can be filled with flour, salt, and paprika if desired. Shake well to combine.
The chicken pieces should be turned over in the water. Make a bag out of flour and chicken and seal it.
A large pot or cast iron skillet should be filled halfway with oil and heated.
The skin side of the chicken should be down in the container. Ensure that the pan is not overcrowded.
It takes about 5 minutes for the chicken to become golden. Cook the chicken for another 5 minutes, then turn it over with tongs. Repeat the process with the remaining pieces.
Regroup the pieces in the pan when they have all been browned.
Water can be added by pouring several tablespoons into a lid and slamming it down as soon as the oil is exposed to the water.
For 45 minutes, cook the chicken on low heat.
Add white gravy and mashed potatoes to the top.
