Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons Baking powder
  • 5 1⁄3 tablespoons Vegetable shortening
  • 2 2⁄3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1⁄3 teaspoon Salt
  • 1⁄3 cup Oil for frying
  • 1 cup Water or milk

Instructions
 

  • The flour, salt, baking powder, and shortening need to be blended until the shortening has dissolved and the water needs to be mixed well.
  • Make the dough smooth by kneading it for two minutes on a lightly floured board.
  • Put the dough in a plastic bag and roll it into a ball.
  • Prepare enough dough to make six thin, flat rounds of 4 to 6 inches in diameter.
  • Bring oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit in a cast iron skillet.
  • Upon placing rounds in oil, cook for 20 to 30 seconds on each side until they become golden brown.
  • Drain the rounds on paper towels after removing them from the skillet with a slotted spoon.
  • Depending on your preferences, fill with the prepared fillings.
