- 2 tablespoons Baking powder
- 5 1⁄3 tablespoons Vegetable shortening
- 2 2⁄3 cups All-purpose flour
- 1⁄3 teaspoon Salt
- 1⁄3 cup Oil for frying
- 1 cup Water or milk
The flour, salt, baking powder, and shortening need to be blended until the shortening has dissolved and the water needs to be mixed well.
Make the dough smooth by kneading it for two minutes on a lightly floured board.
Put the dough in a plastic bag and roll it into a ball.
Prepare enough dough to make six thin, flat rounds of 4 to 6 inches in diameter.
Bring oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit in a cast iron skillet.
Upon placing rounds in oil, cook for 20 to 30 seconds on each side until they become golden brown.
Drain the rounds on paper towels after removing them from the skillet with a slotted spoon.
Depending on your preferences, fill with the prepared fillings.
