Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Pastry brush
  • Clean kitchen towel
  • Small saucepan (optional, for warming sauce)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 24 –30 slices pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil optional, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  • Start by lightly flouring your work surface. Take your pizza dough and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes so it becomes easier to handle. Roll it out into a large rectangle, roughly 10 x 14 inches.

Step 2: Add the Sauce

  • Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about half an inch of space around the edges. You don’t want to overload it—just enough to coat the surface.

Step 3: Layer the Goodness

  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly across the sauce. Then arrange the pepperoni slices in a single layer. This ensures every bite has that signature spicy, savory kick.

Step 4: Season It

  • Lightly sprinkle garlic powder, oregano, salt, and red pepper flakes over the top. These simple seasonings enhance the flavor without overpowering it.

Step 5: Roll It Up

  • Starting from the long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Take your time here—keeping it tight ensures neat, even rolls.

Step 6: Slice the Rolls

  • Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the log into 1-inch pieces. You should get around 18 rolls.

Step 7: Prepare for Baking

  • Place the rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Brush the tops lightly with olive oil and sprinkle Parmesan cheese over them.

Step 8: Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 16–18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Step 9: Cool and Serve

  • Let the rolls cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if you like, and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the dough, or the rolls may fall apart
  • Use low-moisture mozzarella to avoid sogginess
  • Chill the rolled log for 10 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts
  • Always preheat your oven for even baking
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking
