Ingredients

  • 1 Green Bell Pepper (Chopped)
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 14 ½ ounce Diced Tomatoes
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 ¼ pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 Large Yellow Onion (Finely Chopped)
  • 3 Cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Cayenne Pepper
  • teaspoon Crushed Dried Basil
  • 2 tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed Cumin Seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon Celery seeds
  • Tabasco Sauce To Taste

Instructions

  • The ground beef should be brown in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. The meat should be returned to the pot after being browned and fat drained.
  • To the pot with the browned meat, add the diced tomatoes, water, chopped yellow onion, minced garlic, chopped green bell pepper, bay leaf, chili powder, salt, crushed cumin seeds, celery seeds, ground cayenne pepper, and crushed dried basil.
  • Let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 3 hours, stirring occasionally, once it reaches a boil.
  • You may need to add water if the chili becomes too thick.
  • To give the chili an extra kick, add a few shakes of Tabasco sauce.
  • Ward's Hearty Chili is delicious with crackers, shredded cheese, chopped onions, or any other topping of your choice.

Notes

  • Opt for slow cooking to deepen and enrich the overall flavor.
  • Experiment with spice levels by adjusting chili powder, cumin seeds, and cayenne pepper proportions.
  • Find your perfect balance to create a chili that satisfies your taste preferences.
